The learning stance: A conversation with Anthi Theiopoulou

  • Our next Taking the Revolution Forward conversation is with Anthi Theiopoulou of Athens, Greece, who took us on a captivating 3-hour journey into her experience of the citizen movement in Syntagma Square. Anthi has a way of arriving at the peaceful center of even the most chaotic and uncertain circumstances, seeing every moment as an opportunity for learning. It is through this expansive lens that she describes her experience of Syntagma Square. Click on the photo below to read an abridged version of our conversation, followed by a short audio-clip in which we explore the implications for organizational leadership.

One Response and Counting...

This piece was really inspiring and insightful for me in many ways and I can now understand how such an experience of patient little steps takes the revolution forward a giant step, in terms of collective intelligence and consciousness. It is a vivid example of how the butterfly effect can manifest on the streets.
So many points stand out for me, mainly: 1) the addict metaphor and going to the extreme of totally putting the old habits away; 2) No facilitation, because “the facilitator wouldn’t be in a learning stance”, as pointed by Tana; 3) Inquiry with personal questions from individuals, and Warren’s important reminder of “seeding the question in various places at various times. The point is not to get everyone’s brains together because it isn’t the collection of individual brains, but the larger collective consciousness that needs to be shifted”.
It’s a beautiful piece that will stay with me for a long time, because as Anthi has pointed out, “one will never be the same, because they have seen that there is another way”. Thank you for sharing it.
